TEDxNairobi Youth

Our journey: how it started

This initiative began in 2024 with TEDxKitisuru, led by a small group of dedicated volunteers who believed something meaningful could be built from the ground up.

With a limited license of just 100 attendees, that first event was intimate but powerful. It proved one thing: Nairobi is ready.

Since then, the movement has grown. Today, with the transition to TEDx Nairobi, we have been granted a license to welcome a much larger audience, allowing even more people to experience these transformative ideas.

Why we started TEDxYouth

From the beginning, one belief guided us:

Young people already carry the ideas that will shape tomorrow. There is power in giving voice to the youth, it builds their confidence and shows them that their voice matters.

This is why we launched TEDxYouth Nairobi.
For this first edition, we chose the theme: “Born for the Future: Gen Z and Alpha building new systems.”

It reflects a generation that is not waiting for permission but actively rethinking, rebuilding, and reimagining the world around them.

Inclusion at the heart of what we do

We were intentional about one thing: this stage must represent everyone.

We went beyond traditional spaces and actively reached out to young people in diverse communities including areas like Mathare, Gikomba, and Kimbo to invite them to audition.

Because talent, ideas, and potential are everywhere, opportunity is not. By bringing the selection process closer to underserved neighborhoods, we ensured that every child, regardless of background, had a real chance to stand on that stage and share their story.

Impact: beyond the stage
TEDx Nairobi and TEDxYouth are about  inspiration and transformation.
  • We mentor and coach young speakers, many of whom have never had access to such opportunities
  • We build confidence, voice, and self-belief
  • We create role models that other children can see themselves in

This initiative is, at its core, a labor of love built by volunteers, driven by purpose, and rooted in the belief that every voice deserves to beWe bridge the gap between potential and opportunity.

Next TEDxNairobi Youth will be held in February 2027.

Scholarship Program – Expanding Access

At TEDxYouth Nairobi, inclusion is not an aspiration—it is a commitment.

To ensure participation from children across all backgrounds, especially underserved communities, we are actively seeking partners to support our Scholarship Program, which covers:

  • Transportation for students from marginalized areas
  • Audition and participation support
  • “Speak Like TED” coaching and preparation
  • Event access for large groups (schools, associations, community organizations)
